This year the Sparwood Business Awards will run in 2 phases. The initial phase helped us to identify the top 3 businesses in each category. Now, until October 2nd, the Sparwood Business Awards you can vote on the top 3 for who will be the ultimate winner for each category. 

Final winners will be announced at our 2026 Business Awards Night on Wednesday, October 28th, 2026 at 6pm.

Citizen of the Year (Top Nominees)

The citizen of the year is an individual that gives endlessly to our community all year. Your nomination should be someone who shows leadership, dedication, and a positive impact on our community. These nominations came in with the following reasoning from the community.

PAULETTE ROSLER

Paulette (Polly) Rosler was nominated for Citizen of the Year for her dedicated community leadership as an event coordinator for the Coal Miner Days Society. Nominators praised her tirelessly pouring her heart and soul into organizing key town traditions like Kids Fest, building parade floats, decorating the "Spookwood" haunted house, and coordinating the Secret Santa program for local seniors. Beyond her hands-on volunteer work, voters highlighted her kindness, grace, and constant efforts to promote local businesses, vendors, and regional connections across the Elk Valley to make Sparwood a better place.

SAMANTHA BATTEN

Samantha Batten was nominated for Citizen of the Year for her generous spirit and multi-faceted volunteer work across the Sparwood community. Nominators commended her for stepping up without hesitation whenever help is needed, highlighting her contributions as a volunteer with Search and Rescue, photographing Coal Miner Days events, and organizing local social gatherings. Voters emphasized her shining personality, kindness, and dedication as a skilled photographer who consistently gives back her time and expertise to make community events better for everyone.

TONY BELL

Tony Bell was nominated for Citizen of the Year for his broad, hands-on involvement in keeping Sparwood safe, active, and connected. Voters commended his service with the Sparwood Fire Department, his leadership as the volunteer coordinator for the Sparwood Trails Alliance, and his willingness to perform music at local events like Coal Miner Days and the Sparwood Market. Nominators also highlighted his neighbourly initiative, such as securing "slow down children playing" safety signs for local streets, praising his uplifting attitude, pride in the community, and constant effort to leave Sparwood better than he found it.
